  • April 3, 2016 | SEATTLE, WA | Seattle University Men’s Golf team welcomes some of the best squads from across the country for the third annual Redhawk Invitational, this year presented by OGIO, April 3-5 at Chambers Bay Golf Club in University Place, Wash. Last year’s Redhawk Invitational was held at Chambers Bay just two months before the course hosted the U.S. Open, so the players were given the opportunity to play the course at close to major championship conditions. The organizers for this year’s Redhawk Invitational are hoping to give those in the 2016 field a similar feel. “We are excited to host a number of high quality teams this year at Chambers Bay, and our new partnership with OGIO will add some nice touches to the event. Our plan is to have the golf course setup be almost identical to the United States Open setup in 2015. We think the teams would love the opportunity to play the same tee boxes and pin positions as the pros, and the golf course is looking like it will be in fabulous condition for the tournament,” Seattle U head golf coach Marc Chandonnet said. Seattle U finished in second place at last year’s Redhawk Invitational and could have all five players from the 2015 squad in this year’s field, depending on qualification results. Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) finished in a tie for eighth place last year after shooting 69 in the final round. Jamie Hall (Seattle, Wash.) shot 71 in the second round on his way to a top-20 finish, while Joe Harvie (Orting, Wash.), Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.), and Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) all opened with a 72 on their way to solid finishes. The University of Washington will return to defend its title, led by 2015 Redhawk Invitational medalist Frank Garber as well as Corey Pereira and Jonathan Sanders, who both finished in the top five at last year’s tournament. In fact, all five teams at the top of the leaderboard at the end of last year’s event are back this season, with TCU, Boise State, and Missouri-Kansas City joining the Huskies and the Redhawks. The Pacific Northwest will be well-represented at Chambers Bay, with Washington State, Oregon State, and the University of British Columbia entering this year’s tournament. The Redhawks will also welcome Western Athletic Conference foe Utah Valley, nationally-known colleges such as Nebraska, Seton Hall, and DePaul, fellow Jesuit schools Loyola Chicago and Loyola Marymount, Oral Roberts, and Northern Illinois. For the first time in the three-year history, the tournament has a title sponsor, as OGIO has partnered with Seattle U to help put the tournament on. Seattle U has also received help from Chambers Bay Golf Club and the Tacoma Sports Commission. Spectators are welcome to Chambers Bay to watch some of the best collegiate golfers in the country, starting with the practice round Sunday, April 3. The teams will play 36 holes Monday, April 4, followed by one final round Tuesday, April 5.
